GROCERY BAG PURIM CROWN

This craft might very well be the crowning glory of your family Purim celebration! Your kiddos will love dressing up as Queen Esther or King Ahasuerus and wearing a stunning crown of their own creation. Surely they will be the talk of Shushan with this eco-friendly, simple, and colorful craft! I created a basic panel template that kiddos can trace to create their crowns, or (and even better) they can draw their own and make a fancy schmancy design. Chag Purim Sameach!

HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED:

-Paper grocery bag
-Pencil or marker
-Scissors
-Paint (I used acrylic paint), markers, or crayons
-Paintbrush
-Embellishments (gems, sequins, pom poms, etc.)
-Glue
-Optional: Purim Crown Panel Template

HERE’S WHAT YOU DO:

(1) Open up the grocery bag and then cut vertically down one of the four corner folds, and also cut out the bottom panel. After you do this, you should have a large rectangular-shaped paper. (2) Measure your head so that you can make your crown just the right size. Note that you will need to make it a few inches bigger than your head measurement initially so that you can glue the crown into a circular shape (when I made the sample crown, I just added one extra panel) later. (3) Next, draw your crown using the Purim Crown Panel Template — or, better yet, create your own design. Keep in mind that you’re drawing it with the crown opened up and flat (you’ll make it into a crown shape soon!) (4) Paint your crown (or use markers or crayons) and allow it to fully dry. (5) Keeping the crown flat still, glue on your embellishments. Allow them to completely dry. This is super important. If you make the crown shape too soon, the embellishments might slide down. We don’t want that to happen! (6) Once everything is completely dry, wrap your crown into a circle shape (and measure it on your head once more to make sure it’s just right) and then either staple, glue, or tape the end. (7) Spread joy throughout the land by wearing your festive crown to your Purim party, parade, or shpiel!
