SMILEY FELT APPLE

Rosh Hashanah is truly a joyful holiday, and what could bring more joy than a cute little Smiley Felt Apple?!!! It’s very simple (and incredibly fun) to sew felt, making it perfect for beginning sewers. You and your kiddos could make them as Rosh Hashanah decorations or give them to family and friends to sweeten their new year. You could even hot glue a little butterfly pin or brooch clasp to the back so that you could wear your apple with your special holiday outfit! This sweet little craft is sure to get your new year off to a happy start!

HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED:

-Smiley Felt Apple Template PDF
-Felt (I used red, green, and brown)
-Fabric pen to trace the template
-Scissors
-Thread
-Seed beads (for the eyes)
-Sewing needle

HERE’S WHAT YOU DO:

(1) Download and print the free Smiley Felt Apple Template PDF. (2) Choose which apple size you like best, and cut out all three parts (apple, stem, and leaf). (3) Use a fabric pen to trace each part of the apple onto the felt — 2 identical pieces of felt for each part (two apples, two stems, two leaves). (4) Cut out the felt shapes. (5) Make the smiley face first — sew one seed bead for each eye and then do basic stitches in a small curve to make the mouth. (6) Sew the two sides of the stem together. (7) Sew the two sides of the leaf together. (8) Sew the two sides of the apple together, but allow some space at the top to insert the end of the stem into it. (9) Tuck the very end of the stem into the top of the apple (between the two pieces of red felt) and then continue your red apple stitches over it; this will secure the stem in place. (10) Sew the leaf to the top of the apple with either a whip stitch in the back or a few more basic stitches on top.
