POLYMER CLAY TABLETS

Seven weeks after their exodus from Egypt, God gave the Torah to the Israelites. Moses ascended Mount Sinai and brought down a set of tablets with the Ten Commandments. Every year on Shavuot, we celebrate this historic moment, and we accept Torah into our hearts all over again. Your kiddos will love exploring the Ten Commandments by making a set of Polymer Clay Tablets, complete with the ten Hebrew letters which signify the order of the commandments. They could make them in a more traditional color such as beige or gray, or… they could choose a fun color to make Shavuot extra colorful and festive!

HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED:

-Polymer clay (I used Sculpey)
-Polymer clay tools

HERE’S WHAT YOU DO:

(1) Roll the clay in your hands for a bit to warm it up, which will make it softer and easier to shape. (2) Using your clay tools, roll out two ovals. (3) Still using your clay tools, shape the ovals into the tablet shape. (4) Using a pointed clay tool (or you can use a toothpick), write alef through yud, starting at the top right, moving down, heading up to the top left, and moving down again. You can also put some slight indentations in the clay, which will look like cracks and give it some more dimension. (5) Carefully lift up the clay tablets (a spatula is helpful for this) and place them on a baking sheet lined with foil. (6) Bake the clay according to the directions on the polymer clay package. For this example, I baked the clay at 275 degrees for ten minutes. (7) Allow it to cool before handling.
