PENCIL BOX TZEDAKAH BOX

In Judaism, tzedakah, meaning “righteous behavior” or “justice,” is not something we do just when we’re feeling generous. It’s an ongoing obligation and one of Judaism’s most important mitzvot. Here’s a creative way to make tzedakah central to your family values — make a Pencil Box Tzedakah Box! It’s bigger than a traditional tzedakah box, and little hands enjoy lifting the lid up and down to add money. Decorate it with colorful tissue paper or any way you like! Be sure to add some graphics from the Tzedakah Graphics PDF, too. Happy Giving!

HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED:

-Pencil box
-Tzedakah Graphics PDF
-Scissors
-Mod Podge
-Paint brush (I used a sponge brush)
-Items to decorate your box (I used little pieces of tissue paper)

HERE’S WHAT YOU DO:

(1) Print the Tzedakah Graphics PDF and cut out the graphics you’d like to use. Depending on your design, you can glue them onto the box right away or after you add other embellishments. (2) Decorate your box any way you’d like. For the tissue paper, I brushed a layer of Mod Podge on the box first and then carefully added the tissue paper pieces. Once everything dried, I brushed a top layer of Mod Podge over the whole box to seal everything in. (3) Allow your box to dry completely (during this stage, you may want to put a piece of wax paper between the lid and the top of the box, just in case there is any glue there that could seal the box shut. (4) Add money to your box! (5) Once your box is filled, donate the money to an organization that is important to you. Happy Giving!
